A device mounted on Alliance ships, such as the Tohoku-class cruiser, utilized gravitic technology to pull smaller ships in, similar to the magnetic grappler used by the Reavers. Serenity found itself on the wrong end of such a beam when an Alliance cruiser ran into it with illegally scavenged cargo and a Reaver survivor on board.[1]
